According to OSHA, Iowa operates its own worker safety and health program under a plan approved by the U.S. Department of Labor. This program provides safety and health protections to most private sector workers, as well as state and local government employees within Iowa.
The state of Iowa has Occupational Safety and Health Enforcement responsible for the enforcement of Iowa's Occupational Safety and Health Standards. These compliance officers inspect workplaces to make sure there are no hazardous conditions threatening the safety or health of workers. In the cases where those conditions are found, citations may be issued. Iowa Occupational Safety and Health Enforcement Inspections may be the result of regular scheduling, imminent danger reports, accident or fatality reports, employee complaints, or a referral.
