Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Information

According to OSHA, Oregon operates its own worker safety and health program under a plan approved by the U.S. Department of Labor. This program provides safety and health protections to most private sector workers, as well as state and local government employees within Oregon.

Oregon State Plan

Oregon has the Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Division (OR-OSHA) which is part of the Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services. Oregon adopted a number of major safety and health standards that have significant differences than federal standards, but are still deemed effective.

Oregon OSHA's rules are separated into different divisions*:

  • Division 1 – applies to all Oregon employers and contains general rules for the administration of the Oregon Safe Employment Act.
  • Division 2 contains general industry rules and covers employers not covered by Divisions 3-7
  • Division 3 contains construction industry rules
  • Division 4 contains agricultural operations rules
  • Division 5 contains maritime/shipyard operations rules
  • Division 7 contains forest activities, including logging rules

*There is no official “Division 6” listed on the website.
